Selecting the Right Essential Oil
When deciding which essential oils to use in your hand salve, consider the properties of each oil.
Some skin-nourishing essential oil options are Cedarwood, Chamomile, Jasmine, Lavender, Myrrh, Frankincense.
Oils with anti-inflammatory properties include Frankincense, Cedarwood, Sandalwood, and Lavender.
If you crave a little relaxation, add some Bergamot, Clary Sage, Jasmine, or Orange to your hand salve. Ylang Ylang and Rose are also relaxing oils to add.

Considerations
The hardness of the salve will vary based on the carrier oils.
If using highly floral oils, like ylang-ylang or geranium, only use one drop. If too many drops are added, you may get a headache.
Where to Purchase Essential Oils
When purchasing essential oils, it is important to make sure that they are pure plant extracts. You should know your supplier and your supplier should know where they are getting the oils from. Gas chromatography /mass spectrometry (GC/MS) should be used to test the purity and quality of oils. Look for the reports where you purchase your oils.
