We love seafood and on our latest trip to Wilmington, NC to look at RVs, we found some delicious food! Let’s face it, we don’t do a lot of extra things. A couple of day trips here and there and we are good. We have a cat, Sophie, and we try not to leave her for extended periods of time.
RVs
Randy loves to watch YouTube. Lately, he has been looking at Class B+ motor homes. He found one he wanted to look at so we took our first day trip to Wilmington, NC. It was a pretty warm day for February, so we left home with the music playing and no rain in sight. After a 2 ½ hour drive, we reached Wilmington and the van.

We toured a couple and I was pleasantly surprised. For instance, they were small but really nice and had everything you need for a trip. Randy told the salesperson that he wanted a van to drive to hotels and to visit family. His plan is to stay in a hotel or with family and leave this little gem parked empty. This confused me. I thought, why would we pay so much money to only use it to get from place to place? Sure it would be super comfortable, but it’s very pricey for simple transportation. Me, I envision staying at all the campgrounds and hanging out outside, getting fresh air, and roaming around new places in my golf cart. All he wants is a place to nap and go to the bathroom while I am driving. I guess that pretty much explains the difference between me and Randy.
Cape Fear Seafood Company
After we finished at the RV dealership with a couple of recommendations for a late lunch, we decided to try the Cape Fear Seafood Company. The salesperson said that it was really good food and it was not too expensive. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and doesn’t have a view but, he promises a delicious meal. Since it was after the lunch rush and before dinner, we had the place mostly to ourselves. We ordered our go-to water, to drink and said no to appetizers. Once I found my glasses, I discovered that they had fried okra as an appetizer and asked to get it.
Appetizer

The okra came out piping hot and covered with Parmesan cheese. The portion was huge. The okra had crispy and flavorful batter. I thought it was very good but, Randy was not a fan. The okra slices were thicker than when I cook okra at home. I cut mine super thin so it cooks up extra crispy like potato chips. Since this was larger, it wasn’t crispy enough for Randy and there were some seeds that he did not like.
Lunch
There were some daily specials not on the menu. One was a scallop dish that had corn, sausage, and a cream sauce. I ordered the scallop dish and added a side of fries to make it into a meal.

I have had good and bad luck with scallops. I really want to like them but have been disappointed when ordering them in the past, so I surprised myself when I decided to give them a try. Maybe it was our waitress and the way she described them, seared in a creamy cajun sauce with andouille sausage and corn. Maybe it was the fact that Randy can’t eat corn so it had been a really long time since I had eaten any. The scallops were fantastic! They were so good, I could have licked my plate clean. Pork rinds topped the dish and added an extra crunch.
Randy decided on the shrimp tacos for his lunch. The presentation was beautiful and the tacos were delicious. The dish had two flour tortillas filled with mango salsa, sour cream, and cabbage. There was a black bean and corn salad on the side and chipotle ranch to top it off. Plenty of perfectly cooked shrimp filled the tacos.

The presentation was also beautiful also. We eat with our eyes first and the plates were definitely pleasing to the eye.
Our late lunch was a great experience. The restaurant was very clean and decorated with a modern, coastal theme. They had beautiful artwork on the walls. The waitress was very attentive and was pleasant and welcoming.
We love seafood and the food was delicious here. I am sad that we will have to drive so far to eat here again.
